AngularJS – Preferred Single Page Applications Technology

Introduction (About Single Page Applications)

Single Page Applications or SPA’s are Web Applications that load the HTML and dynamically keep on refreshing the required portion of the page with the newly updated data. They avoid the hustle of loading the full page and load only the portion of the page with the required and the meaningful data, thus the SPA’s are very fast.


Benefits of SPA:

Then we can install the Angular CLI globally to our system by command


Creating a Project

Go to the file/folder where you want to create the project, open the terminal and execute the below command


This may take some time as angular CLI installs the npm packages, create projects with the default app.

After the execution of the above command following screen will appear


Building Deploying the project


This command will launch the server and keep on building and updating the application as you make changes.

Folder Structure

Now go and check in the drive project must be there, your new AngularJS project will contain the below structure under the folder src. src folder will contain all your files, HTML, angular, images, CSS etc related to your project. Other folders parallel to the src are support folder/files which are required to build and deploy project:


Understanding Folder/Files structure

File Description
e2e/ This folder contains End to End test cased for the test cycle to test the main application
Node_modules/ Node.js creates this folder. It holds all the third party modules listed in packet.json.
src/* src is the main folder that will contain all your code, style sheets, HTML etc, all the things related to your project. In src lies many other folder and files
src/app/ This is a folder that will contain all your components. This is the default component and every component will have the same structure by default. component.ts code file, component.HTML template, component.CSS stylesheet, component.spec.ts unit test file
Command to add the components is:
src/assets This folder is used to keep the images, fonts, etc that needs to be copied to the build folder when an application is built.
src/environment As the name says this is folder contains 2 files by default each related to your production and development environment, when we have different keys, connection strings, API endpoints etc for the development and production we can define them separately over here. These files are replaced on the fly when we build our application
Favicon.ico This is the default icon of the site you are building by default it shows the Angular icon
Index.html This is the default HTML file if any one lands to your site, usually this does not needs any frequent updates and also CLI adds all js and CSS files when building an app.
main.ts The main entry point of the application.
polyfill.ts Used for browser compatibility
style.css Contains the CSS and style sheet files related to the project
test.ts Hold the test cases
tsconfig.{app|spec}.json Typescript compiler configuration about how your application should compile.
angular-cli.json Contains configuration of Angular 4 Project. It has project name, root directory name containing all the components, services, directives, pipes, the starting point of application (index.html file), the starting point of typescript (main.ts), style files (style.css) .
editor.config Contains the settings for the editor like style, size of a character, line length.
.gitignore This is for the git purpose to define the folders and files which needs to exclude from our repository in git.
karma.conf.js This is configuration used for writing the UT, it is a test runner used in accordance with the jasmine framework, both jasmine and karma are written by the angular team.
Package.json Package.json contains the dependency modules used in the application. For all the libraries used in our project we need to mention here along with the version and just need to execute the command npm install. It will execute all the dependencies and download in node_modules folder.
protector.conf.js Contains testing configurations.
tsconfig.json It contains the configurations for typescripts.
tslint.json Used for defining the code style, we can change the configuration to define the build process of our application.
