
Hospital Mobile Communication System
This mobile app for the medical alert system is used by caregivers and senior living members in elderly assisted hospitals. It allows elderly care patients to get personal assistance just with the help of mobile application without visiting the hospital directly. The app further allows alerting the Hospital staff in case of any emergency.
Problem Statement
This mobile app for the medical alert system used by caregivers and senior living members in elderly assisted hospitals. It allows elderly care patients to maintain independence and get personal assistance with the help of mobile application by alerting Hospital staff. Resident monitoring system where the Caregiver Staff takes the accountability of service while keeping the families of patients at peace.
Extreme long shift, without breaks and rest before returning to a regularly scheduled shift, was a main concern for one of our client dealing with elderly care patients, because safety of the patients is the prime concern for Hospital staffs and other staff members, with the increase in the number of patients the risk of injury and illness was also rising, and, due to this the organization was not able to retain Hospital staffs.
So, this system was designed and developed to address the following issues:
- No compromise on patient safety – Staff on shift lack of attentiveness and was the prime factor contributing to medical errors.
- The hospital staff’s professional licenses were at risk – with the greater probability of errors and other unsuitable practice events were increasing on Hospital staff’s parts.
- Risk to Hospital staffs’ personal safety – In order to address the event in a timely manner, Hospital staff had to rush between buildings. This was causing the probability of work-related injury and/or post-shift automobile accidents.


Feasibility Study
On-call practices and shift overtime have greatly increased over the last 5 years in USA, right from the operation room to all areas of nursing practice. The organization is aware of on-call requirements for Hospital staffs working in elderly care division and dealing with obstetrical, home care, medical/surgical, anesthesia care, and special care departments of hospitals.
Certain hospital shift planning practices could address mandatory overtime needs. In hospitals, it’s common that doctors do the scheduling and start cases late in a shift. Such patient case requires more time than remains in the scheduled shift. This forces the Hospital staff on-duty to remain on shift until the case is finished.
The hospital does not hire Hospital staff off shift schedule cases that would cover those late hours and that would provide relief for the Hospital staff required to remain on a case.
Many Hospital staff is allocated the duty of on-call responsibilities. The Hospital conducted the survey of such cases, Survey found out that Hospital staff attending such cases responded ranged from 0 to 48 hours in roaster work schedules overtime periods of 3 weeks to 6 months. Hospital staffs on duty also reported taking additional voluntary call hours, in the timeframe of 8 hours to 24 hours, during a roaster work schedule. The additional mandatory calculated on-call hours were reported as high as 16 hours.
These numbers suggested that on-call schedules do not allow a reasonable amount of rest to Hospital staff in between shifts. After working for a day shift the on-call Hospital staff can go home, she can call in to report again and again work for several hours, go home again, maybe late at 6 am and further expected to be back at work again in three hours, at 8 am. Such a demanding nature of work for on-call assignments was missing an address.
The Challenges
Challenges involved while developing this system are as follow
- Establish a back and forth communication channels while on the shift between staff across building and states.
- Installing new devices and systems.
- Training the non-tech medical staff on new technology who are resistant to change.
Solution Applied
We captured requirements, performed analysis and presented the customer with wireframes/static screenshots for the complete process. The functional specification defines complete process flow as well as underneath workflow under process flow, wherever required. A high level and detailed designed scalable, secure and performance-oriented architecture presented to the customer providing tech stack details to be used in this application.
The application development started in an agile fashion. The modules like chat, group chat, alerts, user status, push notification, handling app in the background and closed mode, show user activity logs, etc. implemented under well planned and structured release management following sprints.

Final Outcome
We ended up building an application that serves its purpose for older patients and helps them to seek medical care at ease. We also used modules like chat, group chat, alerts, user status, push notification, etc.

The community healthcare solution eliminates the inconvenience of hospital visits caused to older and disabled people and helps them to avail healthcare facilities digitally via an app. This cross-platform app also allows doctors and nursing staff to view patients’ details in a standard format like PHR/ EMR.

Chat Messaging System
- The Chat feature allows users to initiate chat among themselves and do dialogue.
- Walkie Talkie integration feature allows broadcasting within the logged-in users.

Profile Details
- To access the application, we need to first register the mobile device to the admin
- console.
- The mobile device must be registered at the admin console to appear in the list.
- Install the app from the app store on launch the login screen will display.
- The list of employees will show up select the employee ID you have added in the console.
- Hit login the application shall prompt the user to enter the PIN and push the done button.
- The app shall launch to the main screen.
- The app main functionality consists of Alerts, Chats and Group chat between co-ordinated, the ones were taken by the user other than the logged-in user they will appear Blue in the list. Closed alert background color shall be Yellow.
- If the mobile user decided to release alert without attending it, they may click the Untake button and that alert will go back to Take alert queue with updated current date and time.
